Preventive Care
Research has shown that preventing a disease, or treating a condition before it becomes a problem, will dramatically improve the quality of a pet’s life and lengthen time we spend with them.

Surgery
Experience and skill are the biggest factors in the success of any surgical procedure. We use the safest anesthesia available, and patients are monitored closely throughout their procedure (there is no such thing as a “routine” surgery).

Pet Boarding
Your pet can also enjoy our accredited, state-of-the-art resort created to put your pet at ease while you’re away. All you need to do is give us a call and we’ll take care of the rest.
Canine Influenza “dog flu” – Is your dog vaccinated?
Canine influenza or “dog flu” is a highly contagious disease which is caused by an influenza A-virus. The causative canine influenza virus strains have been classified as H3N8 and H3N2. H3N2 canine influenza first appeared limited to Korea, China, and Thailand. However in March 2015, an outbreak started in the Chicago area and was determined to be due to an H3N2 strain. The H3N8 canine influenza virus originated from the H3N8 equine influenza and adapted itself to replicate and infect canine. The H3N2 virus originated from avian influenza which then replicated and infected canines. In March 2016, the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine announced that the H3N2 strain has recently been shown to infect a group of felines in the Midwest area. Their findings suggest the virus is beginning to replicate and infect felines and may potentially spread from feline to feline in the future. Influenza outbreaks are more commonly seen in high risk situations such as shelters, kennels, doggy day care, grooming & boarding facilities. Unlike human influenza the canine influenza is not seasonal, therefore care for your animals should be considered all year round. The canine influenza vaccines are intended to control the influenza infection. The vaccine may not prevent infection, but trials have shown that it may reduce the severity and duration of the illness. The vaccine is given in 2 doses at 3 week intervals. The following years it is given as one booster shot every year. They are the best! by Ken B.The Vet and his staff at the Avondale Animal Hospital are great people who I can trust. My little Min Pin needed an xray and has a hip problem. The doctor did not force me to decide about having her go through surgery, but rather was calm and said we can wait and see how it is in a few months with another xray. I felt very confident that the vet knows what he is doing. Thanks DOC and Marta.
